After leaving Copacabana and passing through Puno, we arrived in Cuzco arround midnight after a thirteen hour bus ride. Waking up in Cuzco the next morning proved to be a refreshing and inspiring experience. The city is claimed to be over 3000 years old and is enriched with history, culture, and movement. Walking around the city you can feel the importance of this location and its Inca origens. The Inca fought with invading Spaniards for decades in the middle to late 1500´s. The fall of the Inca empire was marked by the defeat and execution of Tupac Amaru I in 1572, yet the remnance of the people and the mark they made on the world is seen and felt on every stone in every street, building, and church.
As Peru´s biggest tourist destination, there are no shortage of people walking the busy streets. There are shops, restaurants, and and endless supply of things to do and things to see. Surrounded by temples and ruins, and being the gateway to the sacred valley of the Inca and Machu Picchu- Cuzco is truly a magic place.
