After being in Cuzco for a week we met people who were giving us advice on the surrounding areas and the best way to get around. So we decided to get to Machu Picchu the slow and cheap way. We followed a series of shitty hand drawn maps into the sacred valley of the incas, and were able to spend the same amount of money for the entire four days that most people pay just to get to Machu. After a series of bus rides, back of a pickup truck, and a three hour hike along the railroad tracks we arrived at the base of Machu Picchu. So basically we spent $ for three nights, food, transportation, thermal pools, Machu Picchu, Ollantaytambo, and back to Cuzco- which is the same amount most people pay just to take the train up there and enter the ruins. The hike was amazing and the next night and day was CRAZY!!!
