Fez

Fez, an unplanned destination ends up being one of the best experiences we had. The plan was to pass through Fez on the way to chefchouen and stay one night- but after the first few moments we knew we were going to be spending some time there.

We went strait to the Medina which is like a city center/market/labyrinth of chaos- but thats where all the action is. After finding a cheap place and a bite to eat we went exploring into the maze of madness that is the Medina. Little stores selling just about anything you could imagine: spices, food, leather crafts, hookahs, fake diesel jeans, electronics, ect. People are running around everywhere as new sights and intense aromas are around every corner. We went into a shop looking at hookahs and ornate art. The man who ran the store Mustafa, was a kind quiet little man who offered us some mint tea and a smoke. We spent the next hour and a half in his store smoking and looking at all of the crazy things on the walls and getting to know Mustafa. When we told him that we were planning on leaving the next day he replied, ¨Nnnnoooo¨ in a sort of sad little moaning voice. He then invited us to stay with him and his brother in their home, which is deeper in the Medina than any tourists ever venture. The next day we brought all of our things to his house and went to eat one of the most memorable meals of the trip. We went into a 300 year old building which was clearly on of the nicest riads in the medina and continued to eat a five course meal. We spent the rest of the day exploring the medina, smoking hookahs, and relaxing at Mustafas house. That night Said (sayeed) mustafas brother who happened to be a chef, prepared us a tagine that was one of the best we had in Morocco. We spent the rest of the night talking drinking mint tea and blowing smoke rings. The next day we were off to ChefChouen.
