Cartagena is a caribbean port city originally colonized by the Spanish as a slave port which to this day remains rich in afro-caribbean culture. The old town is surrounded by a fortress wall and to this day remains one of the best maintained colonial cities in South America. We arrived on a sunday afternoon and rode in the back of a pickup truck into the old town as the sunset. Salsa music bumping, little kids running arround in packs, and cobblestone streets crowded with musicians, artisans, and people selling any & everything - Immediate impression = madness!!!!
